Session Descriptions

Monday 5th Oct - DASH

Keynote 1 — Shane Maloney (AI). Opening keynote on AI in heliophysics "We need to talk about AI: Software in Modern Heliophysics"

Session 1 — General Session 1. Covers automated sunspot identification and tracking, PCA-based coronagraph calibration, machine-learning estimation of aviation radiation exposure from in-flight cosmic-ray muon measurements, and guidance for choosing data-model comparison metrics in analysis software.

Session 2 — AI Session 1 (Discovery & Metadata). Explores LLM agents and AI tools for linking publications to mission data, DOI-based mission impact tracking through SPASE authorship metadata, and intelligent scientific data discovery, including AI-assisted instrument and semantic discovery across Madrigal and the Virtual Solar Observatory.

Session 3 — Ground-Based Heliophysics Data. Focuses on synergizing space- and ground-based observations, open science data platforms, lessons from two decades of ground-based data distribution, interoperability obstacles for ground and space radio spectra, and future directions for the HAPI specification, closing with open discussion.

Session 4 — General Session 2 (Metadata, SPASE + FAIR). Covers metadata analysis tooling for CCMC Runs-on-Request, agentic AI workflows for inherited mission software repositories, the MASER radio-data ecosystem, unified solar event APIs in Helioviewer, community contributions to the Heliophysics Events Knowledgebase, and the next generation of CDAWeb at SPDF.

Tuesday 6th Oct - DASH

Keynote 2 — Paul Wright (RSE). Keynote on research software engineering "Evolving Role of Researchers and Research Software Engineers"

Session 5 — Shadow Workflows + Instrumentation. Talks on cross-field interoperability through ndcube, the workflow gap between prototype and production ("The Missing Middle"), driving scientist adoption of cloud portals, and building an observability platform at the ESAC Science Data Centre.

Session 6 — Under the Hood (Mission Data Systems). A deep dive into mission data system architecture and reuse, spanning PUNCH, the Space Weather Science Operations Center, NSSDC China, EZIE, ESA's Solar Orbiter Archive, and Prefect-based pipelines across several missions.

 Lightning Talks / Poster Session. Rapid-fire lightning talks (including poster lightning talks) in the afternoon, followed by an evening poster session and an informal BOF.

Wednesday 7th Oct - DASH

Keynote 3 — Judith de Patoul (Space Weather Ops). Keynote on space weather operations "From research to daily forecasting: Maturing space weather capabilities through R2O and O2R".

Session 7 — Science & Mission Planning Tools. Covers CCMC tools for scientific analysis, an end-to-end software suite for multi-spacecraft space weather mission planning and CME early warning, a reusable multi-mission timeline framework, and an optical-flow tool for automated CME velocity mapping.

 Session 8 — AI Session 2 (Agents & Dev Tools). Focuses on AI agents and LLM-based coding assistants for heliophysics software, including AI-assisted coding in HelioCloud with Jupyter AI, PyHC agents built with Claude Code and Codex, agentic LLM workflows and verification practices in SciQLop, and agentic fault analysis for CCMC simulations.

Session 9 — General 3 (Archives, Services & Platforms). Presents the metadata-driven Virtual Solar Observatory 2.0, the Heliophysics Software Search Interface, launch-to-archive turnaround for the SMILE mission, free and open-source infrastructure management, a critique of sprint-based development, and a web sandbox for solar energetic particle events.

Session 10 — General 4 (Datasets & Science Enablement). Presents science-ready CME simulation datasets for forward and inverse modeling, multi-spacecraft ICME interaction studies, web-based radio diagnostics and source localization, and heliophysics datasets built through citizen science.

Thursday — IHDEA 

Space Agencies and Institutions Reports. Updates from member and new-member space agencies and institutions on their heliophysics data activities, split across a morning new-members block and a general reports block.

IHDEA Working Group Reports 1 & 2. Progress reports from IHDEA's working groups, five 15-minute talks per session.

Friday – IHDEA

SPASE 3.0 Report and Discussion. Report and community discussion on the SPASE 3.0 metadata standard. 

Open Oral Presentations 1 & 2. General open-call oral talks, five 15-minute talks per session.

Final Words / Wrap-up. Closing session for the workshop.
